A Considered Guide to Hand & Nail Care
Hands work hard and are often the last thing we look after. A few small habits help a manicure last and keep hands feeling comfortable.
By Sofia Malik, Beauty & Grooming · sample author
Between hand washing, cold weather and everyday tasks, our hands rarely get a rest. A professional manicure is a lovely treat, but the habits you keep between appointments make the biggest difference.
Moisturise little and often
Keep a hand cream by the sink and another in your bag. Applying a small amount after washing your hands is more helpful than one heavy application at the end of the day.
Be gentle with cuticles
Cuticles are there for a reason. Rather than cutting them at home, massage in a drop of cuticle oil each evening and gently push them back after a shower when they are soft.
Make polish last
Wear gloves for washing up and cleaning, and avoid using your nails as tools for opening cans or peeling labels. A thin top coat every few days can help a classic polish stay glossy for longer.
- Gloves for chores
- Cuticle oil every evening
- Top coat every three days
- File in one direction, not back and forth
When to take a break
If your nails feel thin or brittle, a few weeks without polish can be a nice reset. If you notice changes in your nails that worry you, it is always worth asking a pharmacist or doctor.
Our Manicure & Pedicure includes a long hand and foot massage — and plenty of time for the details.
